INTEROCEPTION

ON DEMAND LEARNING COURSE

The concept of interoception is an exciting new avenue of research in acupuncture and East Asian Medicine, as well as integrative health generally. Interoception is commonly defined as sensation of the internal state of the body, and has been recently expanded to include the processes by which an organism senses, interprets, integrates, and regulates signals from within itself. These terms will sound familiar to all of us who spend much of our clinic time explaining to patients ‘how acupuncture works’, with or without concepts of Qi and Shen.

This course draws together the experience of three researchers who have evaluated the role of interoception in traditional East Asian medicine (TEAM) interventions, and explains how it is immediately relevant to acupuncture practice.
